Solar bunker "Schalker Verein" enters electricity network

Extraordinary solar project: Local company "abakus solar AG" builds a solar power plant on a leftover concrete colossus of the steel era.

16. April. 2008 - Today the possibly most extraordinary solar plant of the Ruhr has been inaugurated in Gelsenkirchen. Investors, employees of the local "abakus solar AG", subcontractors and guests celebrated the commissioning of the solar pllant "Schalker Verein" along with mayor Frank Baranowski.The solar power plant, which (at the current stage of expansion) generates about 320.000 kWh power per year with a peak output of 355 kWp/a., can be expanded to a capacity of 400 kWp. It is located on an ore- and coal bunker of the former steel works "Schalker Verein" and will become part of the "Solar City Gelsenkirchen's" history as "world's longest solar bunker".
