The "University of Applied Sciences Gelsenkirchen" works on an independent energy and water supply system for the village of Busunu in Northern Ghana:
The sun and a special spurge plant make the village independent of the regional power supply system and bring education and some prosperity to Busunu. The contact was made through the St. Johannes church, Selm, the project is sponsored by the Rotary Club Lünen.
Year after year the supply system grows larger and more efficient. To the mission came a church, the mayors house got electricity, a kindergarden and a school were connected to the local power grid, and the hospital ward has power since March 2006 along with the first family homes.
