First european biomass park on industrial wasteland

On the area of former mine Hugo in Gelsenkirchen-Buer the first european biomass park on a brownfield was opened December 17, 2009.
In the course of a pilot project of RAG Montan Immobilien GmbH a so called „Kurzumtriebsplantage“ is to be developed on the large area which is also to be used as a park and recreation area. After having conditioned the earth, some 250,000 fast-growing cottonwoods and willows shall be planted.
