The city of Gelsenkirchen is visibly changing. 1999 the last coking plant closed down, in 2000 the last coal-mine. But state-of-the-art energy technology remains the city's flagship. The installation of manufacturing capacities in the field of renewable energies and a growing number of spectacular pilot projects mark Gelsenkirchen's way toward the Solar City.
But the "Solar City Gelsenkirchen" is not only a mission of municipality and economy. It requires corporate dedication and engagement. A growing number of citizens' initiatives, registered associations, church-related groups, trade unions and individuals take active part in events, actions and investment projects to realize the vision of a city at the sunny side.
The "Förderverein Solarstadt Gelsenkirchen e.V." offers a platform to bundle and coordinate the efforts from all societal scopes.
I am certain that with the help of "Förderverein Solarstadt Gelsenkirchen e.V." new projects will be agreed upon and realized with great dynamics - and I am also asking for your support.
I invite you to become an active part of the Solar City Gelsenkirchen!
Yours
Frank Baranowski
Mayor of Gelsenkirchen
